Short breaks consultation

Are you the parent or carer of a disabled child or young person, living in the borough of Kingston upon Thames? If so we would love to hear from you.

Since 1 April 2011 every local authority has had a duty to provide a range of short break services for disabled children and young people.

Short breaks provide opportunities for disabled children and young people to access mainstream or universal sessions such as after school clubs, activity groups, clubs and day care settings such as Children’s Centres.

Short breaks may also include specialist sessions for children and young people with more complex needs. Short breaks can include both day and overnight provision.

Short breaks give children and young people the chance to develop new friendships, take part in new experiences and to have fun doing positive activities.

The purpose of shorts breaks is to give disabled children the same opportunity as other children and, where possible, to assist their parent/s or carer/s to continue to care for them, or to do so more effectively, by giving them breaks from caring.

Our short breaks programme is for all disabled children, their families and carers irrespective of their gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, age, gender reassignment, religion or belief.

What will we use this information for?

We will use the information received to assist with the improvement and development of our short break services.

The survey closed on Friday 25 October 2013.
