Bike parking and facilities
We work with Transport for London (TfL) to provide additional cycle parking facilities.
On street parking
We are working to ensure that cycle parking meets demand. We have undertaken a study of cycle parking in the borough and have plans in place for new parking installations in the future.
To find out more, take a look at our handy map of current and planned cycling parking locations in Kingston. If you have an idea where more should be installed, get in touch with the Sustainable Transport Team.
Businesses and other organisations
TfL provides free cycle parking stands for businesses (you only pay for installation). To find out more, get in touch with the Sustainable Transport Team.
Cyclehoop bike hangars
We have undertaken a programme of installing bike hangars at housing estates around the borough to help promote active travel amongst housing tenants.
The Go Cycle branded Cyclehoop hangars have spaces for six bikes and are accessed via a key entry.
In November 2017 the council installed an additional 16 hangars, bringing the total number of hangars to 46 across the borough (two of these are operated by Cyclehoop while the rest are managed and maintained by the council).
Council housing tenants can access a space by contacting their housing manager. The racks are free to access for housing tenants.
The council is also exploring options for on-street hangars for the public.
Bike pumps and public repair stands
There are three public bike repair stands and one public bike pump in Kingston.
These useful mid or end of trip facilities are part of the Go Cycle aims of encouraging more people to cycle in the borough and providing them with the routes and tools to do so.
The repair stand includes tools which allow cyclists to perform basic repairs from changing a flat tyre to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools are securely attached to the stand with stainless steel cables and fasteners. The ability to hang the bike from the stand allows the pedals and wheels to spin freely while making adjustments.
The repair stands are located in Surbiton, New Malden and Norbiton and the pump is located in Kingston town centre. Please look at our map of bike pumps and repair stands in Kingston.
