Communal waste and recycling bins

Waste and recycling collection services in flats may be different from residents in houses. Some flats will have communal /shared bins including the use of:

  • Large refuse bins (euro/1100L bins)
  • Blue lid communal bins for paper and card
  • Green lid communal bins for dry mixed recyclables
  • Brown food waste bin (240L bin)

Bin orders for flats with communal facilities

Managing agents / residents' associations are responsible for providing any new or replacement communal recycling and waste bins for residents who live in purpose built flats.

Communal waste and recycling bins cannot be ordered online; if you would like to order a new or replacement container, please speak with your landlord, managing agent, housing officer or residents’ association.

Please make a note of the bin type at your property and available space for the purpose of obtaining a quote from the supplier.  Further information on requirements for bin types, sizes and dimensions can be found in Kingston’s Recycling and Waste Technical Planning Guidance document.

We do not provide communal bins; your managing agent/representative is required to purchase them from a private supplier of their choice.  Kingston’s current waste collections partner, Veolia, can provide new and replacement containers -  Alternatively, search for an alternative supplier online.

If you are in the process of building a new major development and, having read Kingston’s Recycling and Waste Technical Planning Guidance document, you still have queries with regard to your required bin provision, please contact the Council’s Customer Contact Centre.
