KAE Information, Advice and Guidance Policy

Kingston Adult Education wants to support people to continue to learn throughout their adult life. For both for personal enrichment and to update and extend their skills for the workplace. 

To help learners make informed decisions about their learning we offer confidential and impartial information and advice on:

  • choosing the right course
  • signposting or referring people to other providers, agencies or on-line resources
  • fees and financial support
  • learning support
  • progression opportunities

Our aims and objectives

Aims

To provide all learners and potential learners with high quality, impartial information and advice that enables them to make well informed and realistic decisions about training and development needs.

To raise the profile of IAG and embed the Matrix Standard in KAE through managers’ meetings (to cascade through curriculum areas), staff training and development and through the annual Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.

To actively promote the provision of information, advice and guidance that meets the Matrix Standard throughout KAE.

Objectives

Our objectives are to ensure that all learners and potential learners:

  • receive clear, accurate, up to date, accessible, objective and impartial information before committing to a course and to enable progression opportunities.
  • can access appropriate opportunities to discuss how a proposed course meets their needs with (1) Curriculum Officers (2) Curriculum Managers and Learner Services Manager (3) Tutors (4) Advice & Guidance Officers
  • can access appropriate opportunities to discuss progression on completion of learning or course or to attend a Job Search Programme.
  • can liaise and discuss with staff who have been appropriately trained and developed to deliver IAG that meets the Matrix Standard.
  • can access information and advice about 
    • available financial help, 
    • learning support and/or
    • other local opportunities that might meet their needs.
  • are aware that their personal information will not be shared with other organisations unless they have first given permission (except in cases of safeguarding disclosures where confidentiality cannot be maintained for legal reasons).
  • are signposted or referred speedily for specialist or alternative help, either within KAE or to external agencies/organisations.
  • are provided with a range of opportunities to feed back on the IAG service.
  • are provided with information about how KAE has used their feedback to improve their situation or the IAG service. 
  • receive an acknowledgement within 5 working days to compliments, appeals, complaints and suggestions and a written response within 14 working days from the acknowledgement or from the date of the meeting, whichever is later.
  • are aware that KAE is working to meet the Matrix Standard.
