Neil started his musical career in 1983 as a trumpeter and pianist in Her Majesty’s Band of the Welsh Guards. In a career spanning 22 years he performed at many high profile royal and state occasions, made television and radio appearances and performed with world class orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, BBC Welsh Symphony and the Houston Symphony (USA).
In addition he performed in the highly acclaimed Raymond Gubbay opera productions of Aida (2002) and La Boheme (2004) at the Royal Albert Hall. During his time with the band he gained a degree in music and also became involved in music education.
Since the early 1990s Neil has worked for several music services including Barking and Dagenham, Merton Music Foundation and Sutton Music Service.
Neil commenced work for Kingston Music Service in 2009 and now works full time for the service teaching brass, piano, wider opportunities, conducting the wind band and mentoring the KMS scholars. In September 2015 he is to be appointed assistant conductor of the Kingston Youth Concert Band and director of the newly formed Kingston Youth Jazz Band.
