Steps to Employment course
This course is free for young people between 16 and 19 who want to gain skills to enable them to find employment, an apprenticeship or progress onto a college course. Learners aged between 19-24 with an Education Health Care Plan are also eligible to join the course.
The course includes lots of practical skills like employability skills, money management, health issues, putting a CV together, job interview practice and also other activities like visits to local employers, job fairs and visiting speakers from local employers. Work experience is also arranged.
The course includes maths and English and learners work at their own pace towards qualifications which are appropriate to their level. Learners can achieve qualifications in maths and English from entry level up to level 2. Learners with a D/3 or below grades in GCSE English and Maths can work towards and re-take their GCSE exams.
Alongside this, learners work towards a qualification in employability and personal and social development.
Work experience or work tasters are arranged for learners in an area where they feel they might like to work or find out what a job involves.
Traineeships may be available for learners between the age of 16-24 who are practically work ready and need work experience and possibly maths/English to be able to move into an apprenticeship.

Back to Employment course
Free tuition is available on a part-time 'back to employment' course for people aged 19 and over who are unemployed and are claiming benefit. This course provides basic IT skills, employability and job search skills and support.
Learning is accredited through the LOCN level 1 award in IT Users ITQ and also a LOCN level 1 award in Progression.
