Petitions with over 500 signatures

If a petition contains more than 500 signatures, it will be debated by the full Council unless it is a petition asking for a senior Council officer to give evidence at a public meeting.

We aim to consider the petition at the next full meeting of Council, but this may not always be possible. If this happens we will discuss your petition at the following meeting.

You (the petition organiser) will be given five minutes to present the petition at the meeting. The petition will then be discussed by Councillors for a maximum of 30 minutes. We will decide how to respond to the petition at this meeting. You (the petition organiser) will receive written confirmation of this decision.
