Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy

Our borough has a vibrant and diverse Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) that provides a wide range of services, activities and support to residents.

The Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy has been developed by representatives from the statutory and voluntary sectors and is relevant to local community groups, larger voluntary organisations, commissioners and service users.

It sets out our vision for working together – which is for:

a thriving local voluntary and community sector whose role and contribution as strategic partners is recognised and valued for its economic, social and environmental contribution to the borough.

The Strategy focuses on:
  • Community development and engagement – developing the ‘voice’ of the community
  • Commissioning – supporting greater involvement of the VCS in shaping and delivering local services
  • Capacity building – investing in the skills and competences of both VCS and statutory organisations to work together more effectively
  • Communications – making sure everyone knows what is going on and how to be part of it

The Strategy is supported by the Voluntary Sector Compact which sets out a way of working between statutory organisations and the voluntary and community sector.

An action plan is now being developed to turn the vision into reality and regular updates will be available through the strategy e-newsletter.
