Online Music Lessons

We are excited to announce that, from 20 April 2020, Kingston Music Service is launching a wide-ranging programme of online music lessons. We welcome applications from new students - from total beginners to advanced players - and adults as well as young people. In addition to instrumental and singing lessons, we offer music theory lessons and music technology courses. A full list of instruments can be found here

So whether you want to:

  • Learn a new instrument from scratch

  • Pick up an instrument you have played in the past

  • Start singing lessons 

  • Brush up on your music theory

  • Join a music technology course

We will continue to offer online lessons after the social isolation protocols are lifted, although you may wish to switch to in-person tuition at this point. 

Update August 2020: From 1st September 2020 we will be offering instrument hire services by appointment only.  Please complete this form and a member of the KMS team will contact you. 

How do I access online music lessons?

All KMS online lessons will be delivered using Google Meet (also called Google Hangouts or Google Hangouts Meet).  You can access lessons on your mobile, tablet or computer.

What you need:

  • Laptop/phone/ tablet with appropriate video/audio capabilities. Many computers now come with built-in cameras and microphones. It’s also possible to buy external cameras and microphones, to plug into your computer.

  • Internet connection with good speed to handle the demands of video conferencing

  • If you are accessing lessons from a mobile device, you will need the Google Meet App.  This can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play Store or the Apps Marketplace.  You will be asked to create a free Google account.  If you access Google Meet from a computer or laptop you won't need to create a Google account.

  • Teaching resources.  Ensure that your tutor has recommended what resources you need physically or online.

  • Your instrument

How to join the lesson

Your tutor will send you an email inviting you to the lesson at the scheduled time. The invite will contain a link to the Joining Info which you will need to click to join the call.
