About Development Plan Documents (DPDs)

Planning law requires that decisions on planning permission are made in line with a local area’s Development Plan, unless there are planning reasons which justify an alternative approach. The Government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) provides guidance for council’s in producing Development Plans which deliver sustainable development. They must be produced in consultation with local communities, are examined by an independent Planning Inspector and once formally adopted form the basis of decision making. The current Development Plan for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames consists of the following:

  • The London Plan
  • Core Strategy (2012)
  • Kingston Town Centre Area Action Plan (2008)
  • The South London Waste Plan (2012)
