Introduction to the course

This free course will support you to become more confident in using devices such as computers and smartphones for everyday tasks. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an Entry Level Essential Digital Skills for Everyday Life qualification.

This course is designed for adults who already have some basic ability with using digital devices. As such, it is good option for those who have completed our 'Next Steps in Basic Digital Skills' course.

What will I learn?

You will practice carrying out such tasks as:

- shopping online,
- installing apps,
- editing documents,
- organising digital files
- communicating with people online,
- resolving common technical problems
- staying safe online

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2025) and be a UK resident

You will need to demonstrate a suitable level of digital skills to do an Entry Level 3 qualification. If not, you may be offered a place on either our 'First Steps' or 'Next Steps in Digital Skills' courses.

You will need a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.

Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.

If you live within Greater London, you will need to have the right to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.

If you live outside of the Greater London area, you will need to have lived in the UK for the past three years and also have the right to live in the UK for the duration of your course.

What do I need to bring with me to class?

Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.

You do not need to have your own digital devices as these will be provided for you to use while you are on the course. However, if you have your own smartphone, you may like to bring it so that you can practise with it during the classes.

What can I do after my course has finished?

You can continue to build your digital skills with our Level 1 Essential Digital Skills for Everyday Life qualification course.

What types of job can I go into after my course?

This course may boost your employability as you will gain a certificate which proves you have a basic level of digital skills required for many job roles.
