This course follows on from our Essential Digital Skills Entry 3 Qualification. After successfully completing the course, you will receive a Level 1 Award in Essential Digital Skills for Work and Life qualification. This qualification will help boost your own level of confidence with computers and digital devices. It is also a good qualification to show to employers to prove you have the level of digital skills needed to carry out many common tasks.
- What will I learn?

You will practice carrying out such tasks as:
- Safely using various forms of online communication including email, instant messages, social media, etc.
- Using spreadsheets to sort data and create graphs and tables
- Creating a variety of document types for specific purposes such as an invitation for an event, an advertisement, a presentation for colleagues, etc.
-Finding the best deals online by comparing prices, delivery options, etc. across multiple websites

You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2025) and be a UK resident
You will need to demonstrate a suitable level of digital skills to do a Level 1 qualification. If not, you may be offered a place on either our 'First Steps in Digital Skills', 'Next Steps in Digital Skills', or Essential Digital Skills Entry 3 Qualification courses.
You will need a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.
Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.
If you live within Greater London, you will need to have the right to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.
If you live outside of the Greater London area, you will need to have lived in the UK for the past three years and also have the right to live in the UK for the duration of your course.
- What do I need to bring with me to class?

Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.
You do not need to have your own digital devices as these will be provided for you to use while you are on the course. However, if you have your own smartphone, you may like to bring it so that you can practise with it during the classes.
- What can I do after my course has finished?

The course is designed to help you better navigate our increasingly digital and online world. Once you have built up your digital skills to this level, you will have greater confidence in using digital devices independently, accessing online services and shops, keeping safe from scammers, and using computers at home and in the workplace.
- What types of job can I go into after my course?

This course may boost your employability as you will gain a certificate which proves you have a basic level of digital skills required for many job roles.
