This course provides an excellent starting point for anyone looking to pursue a career in working with children in settings such as schools or childcare.
The course can also be of great value to parents or anyone who interacts with or cares for children.
- What will I learn?

You will cover fundamental principles of working with children which apply in schools, childcare, and other settings:
- Supporting the provision of a safe learning environment for young children
- Designing a range of play activities for young children aimed at their age and stage of development
- Healthy eating for children and planning and taking part in activities to encourage children to eat healthily
- Health and safety requirements and the importance of keeping all children safe from harm - What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2025) and be a UK resident.
You will need a sufficient level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.
Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.
If you live within Greater London, you will need to have the right to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.
If you live outside of the Greater London area, you will need to have lived in the UK for the past three years and also have the right to live in the UK for the duration of your course.
This is a knowledge-based qualification and you do not need a placement in a childcare setting in order to complete this qualification.
- What do I need to bring with me to class?

Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.
This course has some elements delivered online, so you will need access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection. (Please note that a smartphone or tablet will not be suitable)
If you do not have the necessary IT equipment, you can still apply for the course as there may be opportunity for equipment loan depending on your personal circumstances.
- What can I do after my course has finished?

This course offers a good platform from which you can progress into a more specialised role. For this reason, upon completion of the course, you can continue onto our Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Diploma course if you wish to progress further into childcare, or our Teaching Assistant level 3 Diploma if you wish to progress into supporting children in schools.
- What types of job can I go into after my course?

As an introduction to working with children this qualification can support a progression route into a level 2 qualification in working with children in early years or a level 3 qualification working with children in a primary school. Once you have achieved your level 1 qualification, job opportunities could include working in a school as a lunchtime supervisor, admin role/support within a school office.
