UK Power Networks (UKPN) will be commencing a major electricity network infrastructure upgrade project for Kingston borough from 15 September. This is a major investment in our infrastructure that will deliver far-reaching benefits for residents, businesses and other services such as our schools and hospitals across the borough. It will also help to deliver on the Council’s green commitments to carbon reduction through expanded capacity for electric vehicles.
The project is estimated to run for 18 to 24 months and will replace out-dated underground power cables with the latest technology. The new high voltage cables will run through 13km of the borough from Sury Basin in Kingston to Fairoaks Lane in Chessington and will deliver much increased capacity.
The upgrade will support and future-proof the rapidly increasing power demands for electric cars and computing/telecoms infrastructure as well as business and residential needs.
