Proposed new children’s home for Kingston

FAQs on proposed new children’s home for Kingston

Why are some children placed in residential care instead of with foster families?

In certain cases, being placed in a residential setting is the best solution for a child’s specific needs, such as when they require round-the-clock supervision or feel more comfortable in this type of environment.

Who will be living in the home?

We are proposing to create a new home to accommodate up to three young people, providing them with a stable, nurturing, and therapeutic environment. While young people in residential care may have personal challenges, they will be under the supervision of trained staff who provide care in a safe and controlled setting.

Will there be any noise or disruption?

The home will be run to resemble any other family residence, and we are committed to being respectful, quiet neighbours. Should any noise issues arise, residents will be able to contact the home’s Registered Manager directly to resolve them.

What will the home be like inside?

The home will resemble any other family home, with bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathrooms, and outdoor space. There will be at least two staff members on shift at all times, creating a stable and loving environment where children can feel secure. The home will provide a routine similar to a typical family setting, with meals together, homework time, and visits from friends and family.

How will you minimise impacts during construction?

Any construction work will be carefully planned and managed to minimise disruption. The council will also ensure that any damage caused by the works will be repaired.

Will there be ongoing contact with residents once the home is operational?

Yes, the home’s Registered Manager will be available to address any concerns or questions, and we will hold regular meetings with neighbours to ensure open communication and a positive relationship.

Is there written guidance on how the home is run that can be shared with residents?

The home will be registered with and annually inspected by Ofsted. As part of this the home will have a statement of purpose that sets out how it will be run. This can be shared with residents that request it. If any resident has specific questions then we will provide the contact details for the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual when the home opens.
