Kingston Council launches pop up face coverings stall to protect shoppers
A pop-up stall giving out free face coverings and hand sanitiser to shoppers has opened in Kingston town centre, run by Kingston Council with the help of community volunteers.
The Keep Kingston Safe stall launched last Monday, 12 October, outside the Bentalls Centre. On the first day, volunteers gave out more than 100 reusable face coverings supplied by local group Sewing 4 Kingston, 195 disposable masks and more than 300 doses of hand sanitiser.
Kingston Council Leader Caroline Kerr, who visited the stall on Thursday to support volunteers, said:
“Cases of COVID-19 are rising across the borough and we need to do all we can to slow the spread of the virus. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to observe the rules around hands, face, space, along with supporting our local businesses to remain open safely, which is why we’ve set up the Keep Kingston Safe stall.
“Wearing a face covering is just one of the ways we can protect each other and keep those around us safe.”
The stall will be open as often as possible over the coming weeks, depending on volunteer capacity.
