Sunray Community Centre’s thriving weekly youth club has received a boost thanks to funding awarded at the South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committee on 12 June.

The club is held every Thursday evening from 7pm to 8.30pm and offers a safe, friendly space for young people in school years 7 to 11 to meet, socialise, and take part in activities like football, gaming, pool, and table tennis.

Following an application from Sunray Community Centre CIC, the grant award of £2,715 from Kingston Council’s Neighbourhood Community Grant Fund means the club will now be able to run through to Spring 2026.

Victoria Steward Todd, Director of Sunray Community Centre CIC, said:

"We are thrilled to receive Neighbourhood Community Grant finding, which will enable us to continue running the Sunray Youth Club we've piloted since the beginning of 2025.

The grant will allow us to ensure the Youth Club can stay open during term time til the end of the financial year, offering a safe space for local young people to socialise, try new activities, listen to music and more."

Since opening in January 2025, the club has enjoyed strong attendance, and now regularly welcomes between 25 and 30 young people each week. It’s run in partnership with Achieving for Children, with support from the Metropolitan Police, who provide a football coach.

Councillor Diane White, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said:

"It’s wonderful to see Sunray Community Centre's Youth Club thriving, and making a real difference in the lives of local young people.

We're delighted to support community-led projects like this one, which do so much to help build a stronger, safer borough for everyone."

The Sunray Community Centre CIC is a resident-led organisation, and has quickly become a hub of activity since taking on the centre’s lease in early 2024. The youth club is one of several new initiatives aimed at building a stronger, more connected community.
