Kingston celebrates the strength of communities this June

A collage of many of Kingston's communities, and the tex Communities Month 2025

June is Communities Month in Kingston, a chance to come together and celebrate the people who help build community resilience and make the borough a fairer, safer, greener place to live.

Throughout the month, we’ll be hosting events and sharing stories to recognise those who make a real impact across our diverse communities. Here’s how we’ll be celebrating:

  • National Volunteers’ Week (2-8 June): We’ll be recognising the outstanding contributions of volunteers across the borough during the week, and at the Celebrating Communities Awards on Thursday, 26 June. From quiet volunteers to passionate fundraisers, the awards will honour those who make Kingston a better place. Full details are available on our Eventbrite page.

  • Carers Week (9-15 June): We’ll be shining a light on the tireless work of the borough’s carers, and acknowledging the vital role they play in supporting others. To explore resources and support available to carers, visit Connected Kingston.

  • Refugee Week (16-22 June): We are reaffirming our commitment to becoming a City of Sanctuary, sharing stories that deepen understanding of refugees’ experiences.

  • Pride Month: We’ll celebrate the achievements, contributions, and heritage of our LGBTQIA+ community while continuing our efforts to build a more inclusive borough, free from discrimination. Look out for the LGBTQIA+ flag flying proudly above the Guildhall from 9 June.

Communities Month is an opportunity to celebrate everything that makes our communities great. The council is committed to working alongside partners and communities to enable and empower residents to live as happy and healthy lives as possible, and ensure those who need to are able to access the services and the support they require, when they need it.

You can find a list of events and volunteering opportunities across the borough on our website.
