Nine bursaries on offer as Ignition Dance Festival reignites
Ignition Dance Festival is back this summer, with seven exciting opportunities for professional choreographers and two for local community groups to win a bursary to perform.
The Kingston Council-run extravaganza, which is in its fourth year, has now expanded and encompasses all of West London.
Produced by DanceWest, the festival is supported by Arts Council England, Kingston University and new partners, Hammersmith and Fulham Council and Hammersmith London, the town centre’s business improvement district.
Professional performances will take place at the Rose Theatre, Kingston on 16 June. The two community showcases will take place on 4 June at the Lyric Hammersmith and on 17 June at the Rose Theatre.
Cllr Andrea Craig, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Heritage, Arts and Leisure at Kingston Council, said:
“Ignition Dance Festival is a brilliant blend of professionals and community groups coming together to celebrate the power and beauty of dance.
“We’re delighted that, for the first time, there are two bursaries available to support emerging homegrown talent from Kingston University’s dance course to create performances at both of the community dance showcases. We are working closely with course tutors to select the lucky winners of the prestigious funding.
“I know that together with our community, Ignition Dance Festival will be bigger, brighter and better than ever. If you have a passion for dance, we want to hear from you. Good luck!”
