The annual Frances Moseley Award celebrates local heroes

The Frances Moseley award is in memory of the late Berrylands Ward Councillor and Housing Lead Member and it celebrates local people who help Kingston’s tenants and leaseholders and wider community.

Cllr Margaret Thompson, Mayor of Kingston, said:

“The response from the community and volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic has been outstanding. Many people have done so much to help others, and we received nominations for many outstanding residents.

“I am pleased to say that this year we have awarded more than one winner and that we have three winners. We would like to thank them for everything they have done and continue to do for the residents of Kingston.”

This year’s winners are:

Mary Parmar

Mary works tirelessly on the Alpha Road estate in Surbiton to support people in the community, especially more vulnerable ones, and is also often involved in organising events, such as at Christmas for local children.

Des Kay and Tariq Shabbeer (Save the World Deliveries)

Des and Tariq have been working tirelessly on a voluntary basis throughout the pandemic (and in the months and years before COVID-19), collecting supermarket food that is still edible, but destined to be wasted and thrown away, and delivering this food to individuals and families across the borough, particularly during lockdown. They are remarkable ambassadors for the borough and the community.
