STARter Groups
Begin your child's musical journey
Our STARter Groups are the perfect first step. Designed especially for beginners, these fun, friendly group lessons give children the chance to learn an instrument, play together, and fall in love with making music. Ready to start your child's musical adventure?
What is a STARter Group?
- No experience necessary: All children begin as complete beginners.
- Group learning: Develop confidence, teamwork, and musical abilities in a collaborative setting.
- Sing, play, perform: Singing is an integral part of every group's learning experience.
- Concert culmination: Celebrate achievements with a special summer performance for parents and carers.

In specific Kingston schools
Four schools have signed up to our Brass Schools Project and will be hosting a Brass STARter Group in school time. Students can only join one of these groups if they attend the school and are in the correct year group:

Costs and discounts
Termly fee: £85 for 10 weekly 30-minute sessions.
Instrument Hire: STARter members receive a 50% discount.
Bursaries: 50% discount available for Pupil Premium families.
What's next?
STARter Groups commence in September and conclude in July. Group formation is contingent on minimum registration numbers. Should these numbers be met, groups will proceed as scheduled; otherwise, a delayed start or alternative arrangement may be offered.
To register for a STARter group as listed above at our music centres or in a specific school, please go to our registration site. When registering:
- to learn in a music centre, please select the correct location shown above on the right, then choose "STARter Groups".
- to learn in a specific school listed above, please select your school on the left, choose "Ensembles, Choirs etc.", then choose "STARter Groups".
