To run a caravan site you will need a licence. 

You must be able to use the land as a caravan site.

A licence will not be issued if you have had a site licence revoked within 3 years of the current application.

Certain conditions will need to be met for you to apply for a licence. We base our conditions on national model standards.

Apply for a licence

Before you apply for a licence, you should check you: 

  • meet the licence conditions
  • having planning permission
  • have the supporting documentation

Apply for a caravan licence

Fit and proper person

The owner or manager of the caravan site must by law be a fit and proper person

You will need to fill in the fit and propert person application form to apply. It will cost £200

If the application is successful the applicant will be listed on the register for up to 5 years

Cost

The following costs apply to applications for relevant Protected Sites (Permanent Residential Sites) only: 

  • band A - 1 caravan and mobile home is exempt from fee
  • band B - 2 to 5 caravans and mobile homes: £200.00
  • band C - 6 to 20 caravans and mobile homes: £250.00
  • band D - over 20 caravans and mobile homes: £300.00

Public registers

We have a duty to maintain and display a public register of all of the licensed caravans and campsites in the borough and a Fit and Proper Person Register for Mobile Home site managers
