You can see if a property, structure or monument is a locally listed building using our heritage map.
Demolishing or altering a locally listed building
We can try to prevent you from demolishing or altering a locally listed building if it is of special architectural or historic interest. We may:
- apply for the building/structure to be "spot-listed" by the Secretary of State
- apply for a building preservation notice
When assessing a development proposal on a locally listed building we will:
- take into account the value of the building when assessing other proposals
- encourage you to retain or refurbish the existing building by being flexible with our application of other policies
