Community Development Learning Opportunities
The Community Development work is about building active and sustainable communities based on social justice, mutual respect, participation, equality, learning and cooperation. It involves changing power structures to remove the barriers that prevent people from participating in the issues that affect their lives (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), 2008)
We are focusing on one of the principles which are working and learning together, this is collaboration and sharing experiences which is vital to good community activity. Currently, we are focusing on health and wellbeing. We are therefore offering bite-size sessions in the following areas:
Cancer Screening Sessions:
The Community Development Team is offering bite-sized sessions to enable participants to understand the 3 types of main cancers and how to access screening services. The 3 types of cancers are breast, bowel and cervical. The sessions are suitable for:
- Members of staff
- Health and care workers
- Members of the community groups

Bite-sized sessions are available under 5 subject areas:
- Diabetes symptoms and management
- Diabetes - Diabetes and food
- Diabetes - Emotional wellbeing in Diabetes
