Update

Please be advised that we will be carrying out the installation of new playground equipment and additional groundworks at Victoria Recreation Ground the week commencing 11 September 2023.

It is estimated that the work will take 5-6 weeks to complete with a handover date of the week commencing 9 October 2023. During the duration of these works, unfortunately public access to the whole playground will be closed to the community. These works will include a new safer surfacing by the junior area of the playground, the refurbishment of the current sandpit with new surround and shade sail located within the sandpit and surrounding area that will give more shade within the spring/summer months.

The play tunnel and embankment surfacing that is located by the sandpit will be completely refurbished to make a new safe feature for users to enjoy. We will also be installing a variety of new play equipment next to the toddler area which will create further additional play features for the playground as a whole.

Following the completion of these works, Kingston Council will be installing a new internal path within the playground also to deal with the uneven surfacing that currently exists on the current path that has been created from existing tree roots. Your nearest alternative playground is Alexandra Recreation Ground. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period of works.

Playground and path improvements

As part of the Community parks programme, we have improved access around the park and created two new connecting footpaths, as well as repairing and resurfacing existing footpaths.  We also asked for your views on our draft plans for playground imrpovements at Victoria recreation. Feedback was very positive and we have now installed new play equipment for young children, including cradle seat swings for toddlers, a bigger trampoline, and new vibrant surface playing areas throughout. This playground was reopened in October 2019 for all to enjoy.

Friends of Parks

The community groups that work in our parks make a huge difference to the quality of the spaces. They lead on all sorts of activities that make the park a better place. Some run events, some do a lot of gardening, improvements and planting, some run activities and many are involved in the future planning for the park.
