Petitions

How to petition the Council

Starting a petition

If you want to petition the Council about something you want to change you can:

  • start a paper petition
  • start an online petition on our website (epetition)
  • have both (but people should only sign one version, either the paper or the online version)
  • use another website to set up your petition (as long as it meets our guidelines)

Read our guidelines for petitions before starting a paper or online petition.

We welcome petitions from those who live, work, or study in the borough - this is one of the ways in which people can raise issues and concerns.

Presenting a petition

Petitions can be presented to a meeting of the Council, a Strategic Committee or a Neighbourhood Committee. You can do this in person or you can ask a councillor to do this for you.

If you would like to talk about how to present your petition or would like your councillor or someone else to present it on your behalf, please contact Democratic Support a week before the meeting and we will talk you through the process.

Petitions over 20 can be presented to a meeting of a Strategic Committee or a Neighbourhood Committee and notice to submit a petition must be given to democratic.services@kingston.gov.uk by 10am on the last working day prior to the meeting'
