Statutory Ceremonies

This is a brief basic ceremony containing the legal requirements for marriage or civil partnership only and is held in a working office.

This ceremony cannot be personalised or enhanced with things such as music or readings. Only two guests are permitted, and they will need to act as witnesses. Both witnesses must be able to speak and understand English.

Statutory ceremonies are available on selected Tuesday mornings from October through to April. There is no availability on any other day of the week including weekends. Statutory Ceremonies are not available at any time during the peak period of May to September.

With limited availability, you must book your statutory ceremony before giving notice of intention to marry or form a civil partnership. We cannot guarantee your ceremony will go ahead if you live outside of the Borough of Kingston upon Thames and give notice prior to booking.

The total cost for the ceremony must be paid at booking, this is £107 and includes one certificate. Additional certificates can be purchased at a cost of £11 per copy.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a small intimate ceremony with those closest to you, Ceremony Room Three in The Old Court House is available to book midweek and is open throughout the year. With seating for 8 guests, we’re pleased to offer a beautiful and affordable option for your personalised celebration, starting at just £181 inclusive of your certificate.

Please email registrars@kingston.gov.uk or call 0208 547 6196 to enquire about availability and book your ceremony.
