How to make your street party sustainable

Climate change and sustainability are two of His Majesty the King's greatest passions. To honour this, we would like to ask anyone running a street party for the Coronation to put sustainability at its heart.

Please avoid single use items, such as plastic-lined paper cups, plastic or styrofoam plates and cutlery, foil decorations and cling film, instead, choose reusable alternatives from your home like mugs, glasses and cutlery. You could also make paper or fabric bunting and use lids or fabric to cover food.

If that is not practical, paper, wood and other compostable items are widely available. If you use compostable items, please do not put them in your bin as these cannot be composted locally. Contact climate@kingston.gov.uk for advice on how to dispose of them.

Recycle as much as you can via your home collection service, including any food waste. More information about recycling is available on our website

Please note that soft (flexible) plastics like biscuit wrappers, crisp packets and pasta bags cannot be recycled in your bin, however, you can drop them off at some local supermarkets visit www.recyclenow.com for a full list.
