Statement on Home Farm Trust - Springfield Resource Centre

Update - 15 August 2025

Home Farm Trust (Hft) recently notified the council of its decision to sell the Springfield Resource Centre and therefore close its day services due to financial challenges. 
Since that decision was made, the council has been working closely with Hft to explore all options to try to avoid closure.

Following discussions with an organisation that specialises in sale and leaseback arrangements, Hft has agreed an option in principle for them to sell the building as planned and lease it back. This would mean Springfield and its services would be able to stay open.

Due to this development, Hft has withdrawn its notice of termination of the contract, meaning there is no longer a planned deadline of October to find a solution.

Services at Springfield Resource Centre will continue as normal whilst details of future arrangements are finalised and agreed.

There are a number of contractual and legal issues to work through and there is no guarantee that this option will be successful, but all parties are committed to working together.
Whilst this is a positive development, we understand the importance of these services and that this situation may continue to be unsettling for both the residents who use the services and their families. 
We will continue to update residents and families on a regular basis so they feel safe and supported through this period.

Home Farm Trust (HFT) recently notified the council of its decision due to financial challenges, to close its day services at Springfield Resource Centre in Kingston in October 2025.  This is a fast developing situation and the council is in regular contact with HFT as we explore all options to continue to deliver the service including at Springfield Resource Centre.

We understand that these services are important and that this has proved to be unsettling for both residents who draw on care and support, and their families. We are committed to continuing to prioritise working closely with residents and their families at this time.

We will continue to update residents and families so they feel safe and supported through this period.
