This qualification supports you as you develop your childcare knowledge and skills while working (or volunteering) in a childcare setting. This qualification is ideal for adults looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years.
The course can also be of great value to parents or anyone who interacts with or cares for young children.
You will cover:

- Health and Safety of Babies and Young Children in the Early Years
- Safeguarding, Protection and Welfare of Babies and Young Children in Early Years Settings
- Supporting Children's Development
- Supporting the Planning and Delivery of Activities, Purposeful Play Opportunities, and

- Supporting Well-Being of Babies and Young Children for Healthy Lifestyles
- Promoting Positive Behaviour in Early Years Settings
- Supporting the Needs of the Child in Preparing for School
And many other topics
You will need to be working, volunteering, or on practical placement at a childcare setting alongside studying on this course.
You must be aged 19 or over (as at 31st August 2025) and be ordinarily resident in the UK.
You will need a good level of English to be able to follow the curriculum and complete any course work.
Please also be sure you have enough time each week to attend all classes and to complete any homework assignments outside of class.
Please bring a pen, note paper or note book, and a folder to store any handouts.
This course has some elements delivered online, so you will need access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection. (Please note that a smartphone or tablet will not be suitable)
If you do not have the necessary IT equipment, you can still apply for the course as there may be opportunity for equipment loan depending on your personal circumstances.
You can progress from this course to the Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualifications or to a level three course in Early Years or Social Care.

This course is part of the Adult Skills fund offer. It may be free if you are unemployed, if you are a London resident earning below £27,007.50, or if you live in a non-devolved area earning below £25,750.
