London Search and Rescue Pilot in Kingston

From 14 August 2025, London Search and Rescue (LONSAR), a charity who assists the Met Police in searches for vulnerable missing people, will be working with the council to run a pilot search and rescue project in Kingston.

Kingston Council is working with London Search and Rescue (LONSAR), a charity who assists the Met Police in searches for vulnerable missing people, to run a pilot search and rescue project in Kingston.

The project started on 14 August 2025 and will see a LONSAR team deployed to Kingston on Thursday and Saturday nights between 8pm to midnight. They are trained to spot and support vulnerable people/missing persons on land and/or in water and will be working in conjunction with Street Pastors, emergency services and the council’s CCTV Control Centre. They will cover Kingston Bridge and the Thames riverside area, much like the Bridge Watch programme running in central London.

The purpose of starting this in August is to allow the LONSAR teams to become familiar with Kingston in advance of freshers week and the influx of new university students into the town centre and in case of any further heatwaves.
