Kingston approves refreshed approach to community involvement in planning

Kingston Council is refreshing its approach to working with communities on planning matters.

The updated Statement of Community Involvement was approved at Strategic Housing and Planning Committee on 19 September.

The document pledges to continue working closely with the local community and interested groups on key planning decisions and consultations.

The council asked for views on the draft statement in 2016 and used the feedback to shape the statement. Further consultation on the draft statement took place in 2019, where additional comments and ideas were taken on board.

Cllr Malcolm Self, Deputy Leader of the Council & Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Development at Kingston Council, said:

“Improving community engagement is an absolute priority and agreeing the approach to working with communities on planning items is an excellent step in the right direction. Alongside this, we’re also asking local people to share their views more widely on our draft community engagement framework, which sets out plans to involve more local people in the council’s activities.

“It’s a really exciting time to work with us to ensure your voice is heard  - let’s make Kingston better together.”
