Council and residents working together for the future of New Malden

An independent report published today outlines recommendations to take forward a redevelopment opportunity to provide new homes at the Cocks Crescent site in New Malden.

The report, produced by Create Streets for Kingston Council, follows a process of resident engagement at the end of last year.

It outlines thoughts on delivering homes, as well as a modern leisure centre and recommends that the council continues to work together with local people to develop plans for the wider New Malden area.

The council will progress the positive work carried out with residents and communities during the development of the Cocks Crescent Supplementary Planning Document (2017) to benefit the wider area for years to come.

Councillor Liz Green, Leader of Kingston Council, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity and we welcome this report’s recommendations as part of our commitment to continue to work with people in the area to bring about a positive change. We want to make this the heart of New Malden.

“I really value the input from local people so far, which has been key to progressing this work. We now want to encourage those who have already given their input,  as well as others who want to share their thoughts, to be involved and help create a welcoming and prosperous new area of the borough.”

The council is planning engagement events in late spring, to start work on the designs and plans for the area. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks to encourage as many local people as possible to be involved and input into the plans.
