Exciting Swimathon Ambassador role for Kingston's Sue

Sue Wilson, Adult Education and Junior Activities Manager, The Malden Centre, has been selected as a Swimathon Ambassador; one of only 11 in the country.

This weekend she swam with the other Swimathon Ambassadors and Duncan Goodhew, President of the Swimathon (pictured).

Sue said:

"On 30 March I will be attempting the biggest physical challenge of my life - swimming 200 lengths of the Malden Centre Pool in the Swimathon, raising money for Marie Curie and Cancer Research. I reckon it'll take me about 2.5 hours to complete the 5k swim. This time last year, the most I could swim in one go was 20 metres, but in January 2018 I was challenged to participate in the Malden Centre Team entry for the 2018 Swimathon 5k. Four of us swam 50 lengths each and completed the swim in good time! After this I decided to do the whole lot myself in 2019 and put in place a year long training programme - nearly one year on and I'm up to 135 lengths with my speed, technique and fitness vastly improved. This is a very personal and emotional journey for me, as I've never been good at anything sporty - quite the opposite, and am also delighted to have lost 2 stone in the process - I've never felt stronger or fitter.

"Before Christmas I was privileged to have been selected as one of only 11 Swimathon Ambassadors chosen from across the country. I recently joined my fellow Ambassadors for a training day and launch event with Gold Olympic Medalist and Swimathon President, Duncan Goodhew. We had a fabulous training session in the pool with Duncan, with valuable tips and technique advice. I also received a new swimming costume and goggles from sponsor, Zoggs. it was a fun day with some inspiring people!"

Anyone can have a go at the Swimathon - adult and kids, solo or in teams, there are a range of achievable distances and there's a 50% Discount with my referral code SWIM19SUE - this code can be used by anyone at any pool.
