Become a councillor and make a difference

Have you ever thought about standing for election as a Councillor?

Kingston Council is encouraging anyone who is enthusiastic about their community to come along to the ‘Be a Councillor’ event being held on Saturday 8 July, 11am to 1pm at the Guildhall.

The event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to discover what it is like to be a councillor and represent the community they are part of. Local elections are taking place in every London borough in May 2018 so this is the ideal time to begin to think about getting involved.

The Leader of the Council, Kevin Davis and Councillor Liz Green, Leader of the Opposition will be speaking at the event together with other serving councillors and the staff that support them. There will be opportunities to ask questions and for informal discussions and networking.

Anyone can be a councillor. Your background, qualifications and occupation are not important. All that matters is that you have a keen interest in your local community, can spare some time and are passionate about making a difference in Kingston. Support is available to help people carry out their duties and a financial allowance is payable to meet costs incurred.

No pre booking is necessary, just turn up on the day or sign up to the event now. For more information call Democratic Services on 020 8547 5021.
