Applications now open for New Initiatives and Your Kingston grants

Local voluntary groups in Kingston are being encouraged to apply for grants under the ‘New Initiatives’ and ‘Your Kingston’ grants scheme.

The programme, which launches on Monday, 20 February 2017, has a total of £125,000 up for grabs and organisations can apply for up to £3,000 for a ‘New Initiatives’ grant or up to £750 for a ‘Your Kingston’ grant.

The money is aimed at supporting voluntary organisations in the borough to set up new and accessible activities or projects that benefit Kingston residents and make a difference to the local community. The ‘New Initiatives’ grants are designed to encourage organisations to think about pilot projects and how to develop activities which will help to deliver at least one of Kingston Council’s community outcomes. Where the award of grants lead to highly successful community initiatives, the council may in the future consider these as opportunities within its commissioning programme.

Last year, the grants helped a number of local organisations including Kingston Carers’ Network, Surbiton Arts Group, Staywell (formerly Age Concern Kingston), Kingston Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Forum, Victim Support and the South West London Environment Network.

Cllr Julie Pickering, portfolio holder with responsibility for partnerships at Kingston Council, said: “The council is committed to supporting the good work of these local groups and the vital work they do for the community. It is important for voluntary and charitable groups in the borough to access these types of grants to enable them to get projects underway, that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.”

All applications need to be for new projects and any applications by the same organisation for repeat activities will not be considered. Organisations can apply for one grant only, either a ‘New Initiatives’ or a ‘Your Kingston’ grant. Organisations can, however, apply for different projects or activities to meet the changing needs of their communities in different years.

All completed applications for funding need to be received by Friday, 31 March 2017. Details on how to apply and an application form can be found on the council’s website http://bit.ly/newinitiatives_yourkingstongrants
