General office hours

During normal office hours, there are various ways to contact the council. If you need urgent assistance outside of office hours, please see the following:

Adult Social Care 
Call 020 8547 5005 and selection option 1. If you think someone is in immediate danger, please call 999. 

Children’s Social care 
Call 020 8770 5000  to speak to the duty social worker or if you think a child is in immediate danger, please call 999. 

Emergency housing repairs (council tenants only) 
Call 020 8547 5003

To report a crime and other concerns 
Call 101, the police non-emergency number, to report theft, criminal damage, drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood. 

You should always call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

Other emergencies
Call 020 8547 5000 to be redirected to the council’s emergency out of hours response team.

Waste collections

Please see your 2017 waste calendar - being distributed across the borough from 19 December onwards.

Don’t forget that we can also pick up your discarded real Christmas trees between Monday 9 January and Friday 20 January. Just leave them at the boundary of your property on the same day as your wheelie bins.

If for religious reasons a burial must take place within 24 hours after death, heads of faith can contact a registrar on 020 8547 4600, between the hours of 8am and 10am. Please note, this service is not available on Christmas Day

  • 24 to 27 December - Grounds only, 10am to 4pm              
  • 28 December - Crematorium, 9am to 4.20pm. No burials
  • 29 December - Crematorium, 9am to 4.20pm. Burials 9am to 2.30pm
  • 30 December - Crematorium, 9am to 2.20pm. Burials, 9am to 1.30pm
  • 31 December to 2 January -  Grounds only, 10am to 4pm

Please note: Cremation service times may be extended on 23 and 30 December once all earlier times have been allocated. Muslim and Jewish burials as above 

As always we shall endeavour to work with funeral directors obtaining and processing cremation/burial paperwork. Burial paperwork must be complete with confirmed coffin/casket sizes.

The King Charles, Open Learning and Hook Centres will be closed over the festive period.

Museum

Visit our Brilliant Images exhibition, a display of paintings from our art collection, including Brill collection works. It will also look at the history of the Art Gallery over the past 111 years, the role it has played in the Museum and Heritage Service, and highlight stories of some of the paintings that have been displayed there on previous occasions. Exhibition runs until the 18 February.
