Kingston Council best in London for Council Tax collection

Kingston Council is the top performing local authority in London for council tax collection – which means even more money can be reinvested into the services that matter most to residents.

Table topping Kingston collected more than £100 million in Council Tax in the past year. This has made the authority’s council tax collection rate from April 2015 to March 2016 a total of 98.9 per cent - which is the very best in London. The figure represents a 0.4 per cent increase in council tax collection, up by £1.6m from the last financial year, April 2014 to March 2015.

Equally impressive is the Council’s business rate collection for the year ending March 2016 - which also stands at 98.9 per cent. This represents an increase of 0.7 per cent - which is an extra £1 million collected.

Councillor David Glasspool, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Treasury at Kingston Council, said:

“The economic climate remains difficult for Local Government, and so naturally we are delighted to be the top performing Council in London for Council Tax collection. High collection rates means more money for libraries, social workers, housing, and other frontline services which makes this borough one of the best places to live in the Capital.

“Rest assured the fact that our Council Tax rates are the best in London does not mean we will become complacent. We will keep going with the aim to remain the best performing Council in London for next year and in years to come.”
