Kingston launches extra free ParkFit classes following great resident response

Parkfit bootcamp, Chessington

Extra free ParkFit classes launched in response to the overwhelming success of the free community ‘ParkFit’ exercise classes in Chessington.

We've secured funding for Box Fit bootcamps and Abs, Bums and Thighs sessions in New Malden and Kingston.

Canbury Gardens in Kingston is playing host to Box Fit bootcamp on Saturdays at 10am and Beverley Park in New Malden is home to Abs, Bums and Thighs every Tuesday at 9.30am. These drop-in sessions are running for 9 weeks, until mid April, and are funded by Sportivate, a Sport England fund.

These sessions are in addition to the existing, successful ParkFit classes in Chessington.

Councillor Andrea Craig, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Sport at Kingston Council, said:

“We’ve had a fantastic response to the launch of ParkFit in Chessington, with over 824 visits to classes during the 20 week series. Of this number, there were 286 attendees, with 241 of the participants being either previously inactive or exercising less than 3 times a week.

“I’m passionate about the difference that sport can make to our health and wellbeing, which is why putting classes in the heart of communities was such a brilliant idea. Uptake so far has been even better than we had anticipated, and my hope is that residents across New Malden and Kingston get involved, get fit and have fun.”

On attending her local ParkFit yoga class, Jenny from Kingston, said:

“I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right knee last year, and I decided to take up yoga to help combat this. ParkFit yoga sessions have helped me to have more faith in my ability to take control of my body and fitness, and to manage pain, when it comes (which is hardly at all now) with a more positive attitude. I would say that attending classes can be life changing!”
