Benefits cap advice session for Kingston people

Kingston Council is staging an event to help households who will feel the impact of a new ‘cap’ on their welfare benefits.

Hundreds of Kingston residents will be affected by government welfare reforms and feel the benefit cap pinch from 15 July when a limit is placed on the total amount of benefits a household can receive, including any benefits payable towards housing.

People affected by the changes can get more information and discuss their situation with experts next Thursday, 11 July, from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. at the Richard Mayo Centre, Eden Street, Kingston.

The council and a range of organisations including Job Centre Plus and the National Career Service will be on hand to provide advice and assistance on benefits, housing, work and training.

People in work, in receipt of Working Tax Credit or aged 65 and over are not affected by the benefits cap.
