All change at the Kingfisher

Swimmers can look forward to new improved changing areas at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre thanks to a £420,000 cash injection.

Kingston Council has been successful in obtaining a grant of £336,000 from Sport England for improvement works to the changing area on the ‘wet side’ of the popular town centre swimming pool.

PfP Leisure the current operator of the Kingfisher will invest a further £84,000 to ensure that pool users benefit from a comprehensive £420,000 refurbishment.

Councillor Glasspool, the Kingston Council Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Heritage, said:

“This is fantastic news – refurbishment of the changing rooms at the Kingfisher is much needed and long overdue. This grant and the significant contribution from our contractor PfP Leisure will enable the works to be carried out at no direct cost to Kingston Council.”

Marie O’Loughlin, Contracts Manager for PfP Leisure, said:

“The works will greatly improve the facility for our customers and will enable Places for People Leisure to further develop our swimming offer – our partnership with the Royal Borough of Kingston is much valued and we are happy to be contributing towards the cost.”

The pool will remain open to the public throughout the works which are scheduled to take place between March and June 2015.
