Festive opening hours 2021

Kingston Council’s Christmas and New Year opening hours 2021.

We are open as normal, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with the exception of the following:

  • Monday 27 December - closed
  • Tuesday 28 December - closed
  • Monday 3 January - closed

Children's safeguarding

To report a concern about the safety or welfare of a child please call 0208 547 5008. If you think a child is in immediate danger, please call 999.

Adult Social Care

If you need help and it can’t wait until the next working day, please call 0208 770 5000. If you think someone is in immediate danger, please call 999.

Housing Repairs Emergencies  (Kingston Council tenants only)

Please call 020 8547 5003. This service is available 24 hours a day over the Christmas and  New Year period as normal.
If you smell gas, please open doors / windows, turn off the supply, leave the property and call the National Grid on 0800 111 999 from outside of your home. 

Please don’t:

  • use your mobile phone indoors 
  • use any electrical switches (including doorbells)
  • smoke, use matches or naked flames. 

Homelessness

If you are without anywhere to stay overnight, please call 020 8770 5000 and our team will assess your situation to determine if you can be provided with emergency accommodation until the next working day. 

Rough sleeping

If you are concerned about a person rough sleeping you can report this via the StreetLink website or call 0300 500 0914.

Sexual health and emergency contraception

For NHS sexual health services, including emergency contraception, contraception and STI testing, see your GP surgery or specific service websites for opening times, and please call them before attending.

The Wolverton Centre at Kingston Hospital

Opening times will change between Friday 24 December until Tuesday 4 January. For more information, please visit the Wolverton Centre’s webpage. Your Healthcare Contraception & Sexual Health at Hollyfield House, Surbiton (0208 339 4783), are open as normal for booked appointments with the exception of:

  • Monday 3 January 

Young people (under 25) can also get emergency contraception and condoms, confidentially and free of charge, from some local pharmacies including:

  • Ace Pharmacy at Ace Parade, Chessington KT9 1DR (closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). Open 10am - 2pm on Monday 27, Tuesday 28 and Monday 3 January 2022.
  • Boots Pharmacy in the Bentalls Centre (closed Christmas Day).

Free postal STI testing is available for those aged 16+ by visiting Sexual Health London or, if you’re 16-25 years old, you can also request them on the Free Test website. Bank holiday closures means there will be a delay in posting and processing test kits at laboratories.

Domestic or sexual violence

The Kingston DV Hub is open and accessible via telephone (0208 547 6046) or email ([email protected]

The DV Hub’s usual working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am - 5.30pm.
The DV Hub will be open as normal on the working days in between Christmas and the New Year (Wednesday 29, Thursday 30 and Friday 31 Dec) and our duty phone line will be open from 9am to 5.30pm on these days. The service will then reopen on Tuesday 4 Jan 2022.

The final One Stop Shop session of the year will take place on Monday 20 December. The service will be back on Monday 10 January 2022.

To report a crime and other concerns

Call 101, the police non-emergency number, to report theft, criminal damage, drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood.

You should always call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

Villiers Road Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC)

Remember that you need to book ahead before you visit the HRRC.

Waste and recycling collections

As Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both fall on a Saturday, there will be no changes to the collection schedule over the festive period. Please put your bins out for collection on your normal collection day by 6:30am.

Real Christmas trees will be collected from households over a two week period from Monday 10 January 2022. If you want your tree to be collected, place it out on the 10th and it should be gone within a fortnight. Remember to remove all decorations, tree pots etc. Place your tree as close to the front boundary of your property as possible, making sure the collection crew can see it from the roadside but that it is not blocking the pavement.

Kingston Cemetery

The cemetery is open daily, 9am-4pm (from 10am on Bank Holidays and weekends). There will be no burials or cremations on the following dates:

  • Christmas Day (Friday 25 December)
  • Boxing Day (Monday 28 December)
  • New Year's Day (Friday 1 January)

Term ends on Friday 17 December 2021 and restarts on Monday 10 January 2022. Learners can apply for courses here.

Libraries

Our libraries are open to the public for browsing and access to computers.

All libraries will be closed on the following dates, except Hook Library which will be open on 29 December:

  • 24 - 29 December
  • 1 January 

All libraries will reopen on Thursday 30 December, closing at 4pm on Friday 31 December. All libraries will then reopen on Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Kingston History Centre and Kingston Museum will be closed from 5pm on Thursday 23 December and reopen on Thursday 30 December at 10am. Both sites will then close at 4pm on Friday 31 December and reopen as normal from Thursday 6 January.
