£1M boost for better roads in Kingston
Councillors have approved a £1 million boost for improvements to the borough’s roads.
Money earned from on-street parking charges in the last year will be used to pay for extra highways maintenance after Kingston Council’s Policy and Finance committee backed the move.
Kingston Council also received £250,000 from the government’s recently announced ‘pothole fund’ and a further £238,000 share of additional national funding for highways maintenance.
Councillor Eric Humphrey, Cabinet Member for Finance, said:
“I am very pleased that money raised from motorists is being used to make our roads safer. Potholes are a hazard for all road users, especially cyclists.”
