Changes to West Chessington Children’s Centre
We are planning to make some changes to the services we offer at West Chessington Children’s Centre. The changes will be made in a way that keeps to a minimum any disruption they may cause parents or children.
Services will continue to be offered at West Chessington Children’s Centre but some services may change, depending on your views and preferences on this.
The purpose of Children’s CentresWe have a duty to ensure that we have sufficient children’s centres across the borough and that they deliver their main purpose which is to improve the lives of young children and their families and to make sure that:
- children have an equal chance to grow, develop, be healthy and ready for school
- families are supported in their ambitions and parenting skills
Reducing the number of activities at West Chessington
At the moment West Chessington Children’s Centre offers a variety of activities including ‘Stay and Play’, a ‘Family Links’ parenting programme and a ‘Rhythm Time’ activity.
We are proposing to reduce the number of these activities, depending on people’s preferences. These activities will continue to take place at West Chessington Children’s Centre so they stay local but would be delivered by staff from our neighbouring Chessington Children’s Centre to the same high standards.
Changes are necessary to make cost savings and enable Lovelace Primary to develop additional services using the building
We need to make considerable savings in the face of reduced Government funding and some serious financial challenges over the coming years. This change will help us to achieve these savings in a way we believe is least disruptive to the children and families who use West Chessington Children’s Centre.
This change will also enable Lovelace Primary School to use the West Chessington Children’s Centre building before and after school hours to offer a breakfast and after school club, and also develop some holiday services too.
The Willows Preschool service will continue to offer early education places and sole use of their building will be beneficial to this provision.
These changes are due to take place from 1 September 2014.
Have your say about the changes
We are very keen to make sure everyone involved can have their say about these changes. We would like to know what activities you would like to continue to use.
There are several ways you can have your say. You can:
- fill in our online questionnaire
- fill in our paper questionnaire which you can pick up from West Chessington Children’s Centre
- take part in a discussion group:
- Monday 30 June during Messy Play at West Chessington Children's Centre from 9.15am to 10.15am
- Wednesday 2 July during Stay and Play at West Chessington Children's Centre from 1.40pm to 3.10pm
- Thursday 3 July at Chessington Children’s Centre (not West Chessington!) from 5pm to 7pm.
The closing date for filling in both the online and paper questionnaire was Friday 18 July 2014.
