Changes to TV licences for those over 75
Important changes are happening for residents aged 75 or over who receive a free TV Licence from the BBC.
As it announced earlier this year, from 1 August the BBC will only offer the free TV licence for people over 75 to those who are claiming Pension Credit.
If you already have an over 75 TV Licence you don’t need to do anything now, but the new rules will apply when it’s time to renew your licence, so it’s important that you check whether you’re eligible to receive Pension Credit before this happens.
People who receive Pension Credit can also get free dental treatment and possibly help with Council Tax, housing costs and heating bills.
If you don’t have Pension Credit but think you may be eligible, you can find out more and apply online at www.gov.uk/pension-credit. You can also call the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234 Monday to Friday, 9.30am - 6.00pm.
