Support to the Voluntary and Community Sector
A message from Councillor Kerr, Leader of the Council
‘I feel incredibly proud to be part of such a community-led borough, with so many voluntary and community organisations working to look after our most vulnerable during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) crisis.
We know, however, that for many voluntary and community organisations this is an extremely difficult time. That is why I wanted to send out a message of support, outlining our commitment to the sector, and detail all that we are doing to help you.
We are determined to provide financial stability throughout this crisis. We are offering a variety of financial support, both to groups funded by us, by extending your contracts, and to all of Kingston’s voluntary organisations, by helping you to bid for available funding. If you are a voluntary or community group that leases a building from Kingston Council, we may be able to offer you a three month rent holiday.
To help voluntary organisations cope with increasing need, we have been working with civil society to coordinate volunteers through the Kingston Stronger Together hub. The response has been really heartening, with over 1000 volunteers coming forward to offer their support. If there is one thing we are not short of across our borough, it is generosity.
With this increasing need, however, comes increased stress. Your committed staff are vital to our response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, and their wellbeing is extremely important to us. We are offering the Council’s Employee Assistance Programme to all staff at Kingston's voluntary organisations.
We are thankful to our Voluntary and Community Sector and will do everything we can to support you through this time. When this crisis is over, we want to make sure that your organisations are as diverse and vibrant as ever and remain an integral part of the community ’
