Update on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) from Kingston Council

An update on the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation from Kingston Council.

Kingston Stronger Together

We have received an incredible number of people asking about volunteer services and offering their support during this challenging time, and we are so grateful for all the support and patience shown by our wonderful residents.

The council has teamed up with Kingston Voluntary Action and Volunteering Kingston to launch a new volunteering hub for the borough - Kingston Stranger Together.

Schools and early years settings closures

Over the next two weeks, schools will remain open to assist in the effort to care for children of key workers and vulnerable pupils which includes those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as those who have a social worker, including all child protection cases, child in need and children looked after.

We will be working with our schools to define which pupils will be attending school and how they will be supported including how classes will be managed, what the education/care provision will look like and how we safeguard these young people at this time.

More information on schools and education can be found here.

Changes to parking services

As the country continues to feel its way through the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) crisis, the council is very much aware of the importance of supporting key workers. This includes ensuring parking is available.

It is also right that we seek to find the right balance in respect of enforcement to keep the roads safe, access for emergency vehicles and space available for all. The parking service will now focus on enforcement of safety-critical controls and assisting key workers helping unwell and vulnerable people.

You can find all the latest information on parking here.

Playgrounds

To help stop the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) we are closing our playgrounds and restricting the use of the gym equipment in our parks.

The parks will remain open for people to walk and exercise in. However, please observe social distancing guidance while using our parks and green spaces.

Waste and recycling

We are prioritising the collection of general waste and food waste, while we deliver recycling and waste collection with a reduced workforce.

The time of your usual collection may have changed. It is important that you ensure waste is presented at the front of your property by 06:30am on your normal collection day.

Libraries move online

The impact of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) means all library buildings across Kingston are closed for the foreseeable future.

There will continue to be an online offer so residents can access e-books and e-audio books. We have also put in place a series of measures to support residents, which will be revised regularly.

We will be putting more activities online such as live streamed rhymetimes, book reviews and links to other interesting sites.
