Thank you from Kingston Council leader Liz Green

A thank you from Kingston Council leader, Councillor Liz Green, after the recent budget consultation:

“I want to thank everyone who has viewed, shared or contributed in any way to our 2020-21 budget proposals. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we seek to set a budget that is fair for all and provides a sustainable financial future for our wonderful borough.

“We were really pleased to see such constructive and thoughtful recommendations on how we should spend our money, which we have taken into account in our proposals and will continue to shape our thinking and planning going forward.

“We are proud of Kingston and determined to invest in our borough, which is why we are planning to put £6.6 million into key services for residents and to meet our priorities of helping our most vulnerable residents.

“Nevertheless, these are stark financial times for Kingston and prolonged central Government underfunding and cuts have had an impact on our plans, meaning we are more reliant on business rates and council tax as we look to balance the books.

“Back in 2010, we received £66 million from the central Government, and this has now been cut to zero. At the same time, demand for our services is increasing. Kingston’s population is growing too - we have 20,000 more residents than in 2011 and the population is expected to grow to 202,234 by 2030.”

“Thank you once again for sharing your views with us.”

Budget Council will take place on 27 February at 7.30pm in the Guildhall. You can either come along or, if you can’t make it, tune in online by visiting
