Our Mayor is the figurehead of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. The Mayor is elected at the Annual Council Meeting in May and serves for one year. The Mayor (and Deputy Mayor) are members of the Council.

The Mayor’s duties include representing the Council on public occasions, such as Remembrance Day services and chairing meetings of the Council. The Mayor also attends civic functions including citizenship ceremonies.

The current Mayor is Councillor Noel Hadjimichael.

Councillor Noel Hadjimichael was appointed as the 191st Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston at Annual Council on 13 May 2025.

Having lived in Kingston since emigrating from Australia in March 2016, Councillor Hadjimichael has been a councillor for Canbury Gardens Ward since May 2022. He has served as both a portfolio holder and chaired the Health Overview Panel during his time as a councillor.

A former Naval Officer, Lawyer and Charity CEO, Councillor Hadjimichael spends his time away from Kingston Council chairing a defence & security think tank in central London, as well as volunteering on HMS Belfast for the Imperial War Museum.

The Mayor has chosen to support two charities for the duration of his mayoral term, focusing on the theme of ‘resilience’. The first is Learn English at Home (LEAH). The second is the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) - FANY (PRVC).

You can read more about the Mayor's charities on the Mayor's charitable trust page.

About the Office of Deputy Mayor
The Deputy Mayor, when deputising, should be treated as the Mayor would be treated. The Deputy Mayor will normally deputise for the Mayor when the Mayor is away from the Royal Borough, ill, or when there is a clash of functions and it is desirable for the Royal Borough to be represented at both. The Deputy Mayor may also appoint a Deputy Mayoress or Escort to accompany them on official engagements.
