Kingston Mobile Mop Up project

This year's collection for the 2021/22 Appeal is now closing and that anyone still wishing to make any late donations of devices should contact mayors.office@kingston.gov.uk for further guidance.

After last year's Mobile Mop Up project raised £4,000 for the Mayor's Charitable Trust, the council is again teaming up with international recovery, recycling and reuse experts Genuine Solutions (GSUK) for the Mobile Mop Up project.

This year's drive will once more be inviting people to hand over old, unwanted tech to be recycled. Profits from the drive will again go towards the Mayor’s Charitable Trust. We are calling for donations until early May 2022.  (Note: If you are looking to donate on behalf of a business, you should contact Genuine Solutions directly. Please scroll down to the bottom of this page for more information.)

Who is involved?

The Mayor's Charity Trust and Kingston Council are working together with local e-waste recycling company GSUK on the project. You can find out more about GSUK here.

What can I donate?

This year, we are calling for donations of old or unused mobile phones, laptops, tablets, cables and mobile accessories.

What will happen to my devices?

Devices will be cleaned and recycled in an environmentally-friendly way to be used again as a new handset, or stripped for parts depending on the condition. All phones will be wiped free of any data at the start of the process.

How can I get involved?

You can hand in your old or unused tech at your most convenient collection point throughout the borough, or if you prefer to post your donations, you can do so using the below freepost address. If you are part of a business, you should get in touch with Genuine Solutions directly. Scroll to the bottom of this page to find out how to do this.

What if I can’t donate my phone, laptop or tablet during the drive?

We will be taking steps in order to be able to collect late donations. You can get more information on this by emailing communications@kingston.gov.uk

I am part of a business. Can I get involved?

Businesses wanting to donate equipment should contact Genuine Solutions directly, via Davide.R@genuinesolutions.co.uk to arrange for a business collection.

You will of course need to satisfy yourself that any data-holding devices are managed safely.  By all means work through any other organisation you trust - ensuring they at least match the stringent standards that Genuine Solution adhere to.

Disclaimer: It is your responsibility to be aware of how your device and its data will be managed, once donated for recycling or disposal.  Before donating your devices, please ensure that you are satisfied with how this will be managed by the recipient.  If you choose to use Genuine Solutions you can find out more about GS here.
